The sun glimmers off the deep green sea as a lone bird wings its way across the rocks. It lands on a tree branch and watches for fish below. The waves move tirelessly and incessant. Roaring. Hissing. Sometimes placid. The long asphalt ribbon of road meanders down the coast and cars are perched along its edges. Surfers clamor along the sand. Up the hillsides leading away from the coast, houses loom amid well-manicured lawns and trees. Some are opulent. Magnificent and palatial. The affluent and the content. Warm in their wealth… money is freedom. Freedom to not have to do what you don’t want to do. Fences and walls wrap these properties and blue shimmering pools are seen in virtually every backyard. One of these is distinctly different.
An empty clover-shaped pool spreads out on a hillside near a beautiful home. A swimming pool of clear water sits adjacent to it. Double your pleasure? Skateboarders clutter the decks and take turns rolling through the afternoon sunlight. They have a youthful enthusiasm and spirit about them. They don’t sit inside and participate in nothing. Clockwatchers go nowhere.
The skateboarders were different. Their yells and laughter reach up to the bird as he wings his way inland. They fly in their own special way. Life completes itself. Thank you to William Sharp for the images. Skate- Ozzie
