Weekend

Weekend. It started off in Laguna Beach. It moved to Hollywood and then it ended at Ridiculous. I find it all strangely appropriate. All roads lead to home… wherever that may be. I only unpack a bag to do laundry, clean house, water my plants and run along the freeways once again. Perpetual motion. I’m always saying, “Goodbye”. William Sharp was going to come out to the house and take some photographs this past Sunday. I had a pretty heavy crew on lock and I figured things might get pretty interesting. Sunday morning found me on the 101, driving out of Los Angeles. My phone began receiving messages. It didn’t stop until I was close to home. “Can’t make it bro.”  Another: “Sorry dude.” One other: “Ozzie, thanks man but I can’t get out there…” By the time I arrived at Ridiculous, I had no idea who would still come. My roomie – Michael was home with his friend Paul. Bill Sharp showed up with Shane Allen shortly after. We set into the pool almost immediately. “There’s no place like home!”

After an hour or two, we decided to head down to the Gorilla Pool. It ended up being just Bill, Shane and myself. I grabbed my Sims Taperkick before heading out of the door. After a 7-11 stop for snacks, we rolled up and swept out the Gorilla. It was bright and hot. I set the Sims Taperkick down and took a few turns. It was small and difficult to get to the top of the pool at first. The wheels were definitely slower and the narrow Bennett trucks felt strange. I kept at it and put the trucks on coping out of respect for Tom Sims and all the pool pioneers that have inspired me. It felt good. Shane tore into the Gorilla and was smiling. It has a great speed line and he tapped into it quickly and mauled the deathbox. Shane was in kill mode.

We ended the day happy. We went home content. The weekend was behind us and it ended with a good session and pool pals. What else can we ask for? Thanks to Bill Sharp for the images. Skate- Ozzie

  1. Love all of the images and I miss the Gorilla. Looks like the yard has been cleaned up more since we found that primate. Hope to be back out again soon. Miss ya Ozzie. “Skate and don’t be a silverback.” Haha
